So today was Logan's 2 year checkup. I was anxious to see how much he weighed and how he was doing overall. I mean, I know he is healthy and he seems pretty smart to me, but I wanted that reassurance from the doctor. He hadn't been since last July for his 15 month checkup (luckily he hardly ever gets sick) so it had been awhile since he had been weighed and measured, etc. I was very anxious to see how he was growing.
We waited in the room for about 30 minutes or so. And it's a pretty small room with, like, 4 toys and a stack of books that have clearly been around for a while. It is extremely hard to entertain a 2 year old in a small room for that long, especially when the waiting room had a fish tank that he REALLY wanted to go back to. So the doctor finally came in and he's pretty quick and to the point. No time for small talk, which can be both a good and bad thing. He asked if Logan was eating well (yes, loves fruits and veggies) and sleeping well (yes, about 12-14 hours per day). He asked if he had 100 words. I wasn't sure about this one. I know he talks a lot, but I wasn't sure if he really had 100 different words. So he asked if he was stringing 2 and 3 words together (um, yes, not always understandable, but yes). He's even had 5 and 6 word sentences (I don't know where Daddy is). So, then we move to the padded table to check his body and such. Logan laid down like such a big boy and while the dr. was looking in his eyes, nose, and ears Logan just looked at him like "what are you doing, dude?" but there were no tears this time. The dr. even commented on how most 2 year olds do not just lay there like that. So everything looks great. He's doing everything developmentally that he is supposed to and then some. Everything he told me to start doing, we are already doing (reading books about colors and shapes, playing catch, etc.).
So he weighs 29 lbs (60%) and is 34 1/2 inches tall (60%) which puts him above average for the first time since he was 6 months old. In the past he was in the 10-30% on both of those things. He's grown about 3 inches and gained 6 pounds since last July. So it's obvious the kid eats and now we can take him off whole milk. Then he informed me that he would only be getting one shot today, which was a relief. I hate seeing that look on Logan's face when they jam that needle in his thigh. Ugh. And it wasn't any better this time. Man, he looked at me (since I had to stand over him to hold his arms down) like I was killing him. But he got over it very quickly, especially since we were finally leaving the room we had been in for like an hour and going back to the waiting room where the fish were. Maybe we need to get a fish tank. He was mesmerized and did not want to leave the dr.'s office. Does that ever happen?
So, all in all, good dr. visit. We don't have to go back until he's 3 (which I don't even want to think about him being 3!). Now I am exhausted and Chris isn't home (surprise, surprise) so hopefully it will be an early evening.
Oh, on a side note, the other night I told Logan "I love you" and he usually just repeats "wuv oo" but this time he said "I wuv oo too Mommy." Oh my gosh, so sweet. And yesterday we were at the park and another mom was there and for some reason she was calling herself a spaz (I don't know, moms at the park are lonely and always want to talk to me for some reason about random things about their life). Logan wasn't even paying attention (or so I thought) but he turned around and said "Spaz! Spaz!" It was so funny. You really have to watch your mouth around this kid.

Back to the 21st Century
Well, we finally got hooked up to the internet and cable. Only 5 weeks after we moved in. So now, Chris and I are in separate rooms watching separate shows and playing around on the computer (we borrowed a laptop from Dad). Ahh, married life.
So, over the "lack of technology" break, Logan turned 2. I can't believe he is 2 years old. He's so big now. He is talking like crazy and he understands everything (or seems to). He goes for his 2 year checkup next week. I am anxious to see how he is doing. I did notice the other day that he does seem to favor his left hand. I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I don't have any experience with left-handedness. Chris is excited for sporting reasons. We'll see if it sticks. He still goes back and forth a little bit when he is coloring and eating.
I am also considering starting to potty-train him this summer. I know he'll just barely be 2, but I figure if I am going to be off work for the whole summer, I may as well attempt it. I'm not going to push it, though. Any suggestions would be great.
Speaking of the summer break, I CANNOT wait until school is out. This year has been difficult, to say the least. It's really hard when you don't feel like you give 100% in any aspect of your life. When I am at work, I know I am not giving my best effort because I would rather be home with Logan. And when I am home, work is always in the back of my mind because I know I have to go back the next day. So, they handed out our contracts a few weeks ago and I put mine in my desk, determined to come up with some way to not have to sign it. Well, I have less than a week before it is due and I haven't come up with any ideas. The secretary asked me about it and I told her I just got busy and that it was "wishful thinking." She understood but I am really struggling with this. I don't look forward to or really enjoy work and then when I get home I am too tired to play with Logan the way he deserves. It's not fair to him or the kids I work with. It just depresses me to think about it.
On the upside, we're trying to figure out our family summer vacation plans. We discussed Arkansas last year b/c it's reasonably close (meaning we don't have to fly b/c Logan is no longer free) and very scenic. Heather has found several places to stay, we just have to narrow down a week that everyone will be available. I am excited that we are able to take Logan on family vacations. I remember going as a kid, even if it was just camping or something, and it was so much fun. Arkansas will be fun. Logan loves the outdoors so it's right up his alley. The car ride up there? Maybe not so much...but if he has his beloved Uncle "Wyan" to entertain him, he should be good. Just remind Heather and I to ride in the other car.
